What is SmartLipo?

SmartLipo is a minimally invasive procedure using a 1 mm cannula at a laser fiber inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser's energy directly to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage.
Due to the cannula's small size, SmartLipo can be performed under local anesthesia. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising — and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe with only minimal side effects.

Who is a good candidate for SmartLipo lipolysis?

If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you're a candidate for SmartLipo. Ideal candidates are in good health, a normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results. Patients with a history of significant cardiac or endocrine problems are not candidates for SmartLipo.
SmartLipo is ideal for treating small areas of the arms, face, neck, knees, bra strap, back, abdomen, breasts (gynecomastia), inner thighs, and areas of loose flabby skin. It is excellent for smoothing out uneven areas. While results can be seen immediately, the final results will be seen after approximately 4 months.

How many treatments will I need?

For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The sessions will last a minimum of 1 ½ hours for each area treated. One to three areas can be treated at a time depending on the size of fat collections. Laser lipolysis is also an ideal choice for “touchups” and revisions.

Does SmartLipo produce lasting results?

Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, that person's fat cells simply expand. Should you gain weight, the fat is usually deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.

What will I experience postoperatively?

Postoperatively it is not unusual to expect some swelling, slight bruising, and mild discomfort similar to muscle aches after a strenuous workout. Compression garments are worn for anywhere from one to three weeks postoperatively while the treated areas are healing. We suggest two days of rest although some patients may be able to return to work immediately after the procedure. You should refrain from hot tubs are strenuous exercise for two weeks.

Does SmartLipo treat cellulite?

SmartLipo is not designed to specifically treat cellulite. However, the procedure will improve the body's shape and may improve cellulite to a certain degree as it tightens sagging skin.
